Our Mission -

We aim to support individuals, families, and communities of marginalized backgrounds to bridge gaps in educational, mental, and healthcare systems in a culturally sensitive and relevant manner.

    1. Provide advocacy and empowerment initiatives to promote self-determination and resilience among underserved populations.

    2. Offer holistic support that addresses the interconnected needs of individuals, families, and broader communities.

    3. Collaborate with stakeholders such as schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations to implement effective solutions.

    4. Foster partnerships with local leaders and organizations representing diverse communities to enhance outreach and engagement.


    Focus demographics: 

    1st and 2nd generation African immigrants

    Middle to high school kids 

    Women and girls

  • “Remove the fog” – add a sense of clarity and direction to systemic procedures and ideas that can be otherwise hard for marginalized people to navigate without guidance.

    Target areas that exhibit systematic disparities, deficiencies, and obstacles; develop programs, interventions, and offer resources with access and quality in mind

  • Consider cultural nuances and details often overlooked by professionals in educational, social and health systems.

    • Recognize and respect the diverse cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and values of the populations served

    • Adapt services, materials, and approaches to align with the cultural preferences and needs of individuals and communities.

    • Incorporate cultural competence training/discussion for staff and volunteers to ensure sensitivity and understanding in interactions.

    • Engage in ongoing community dialogue and feedback mechanisms to continuously improve cultural responsiveness.

Over the past 15+ years, our work has included Education Programs, Youth and Family Counseling, Mental Health Services, Program Design and Implementation, Cultural Competence Training, and more. HMYFP has worked with a number of groups, including but not limited to:
